With the highly-anticipated animated revival continuing to take shape behind the scenes, the latest news reveals the first image of King of the Hill's return. The photo was taken by series star Grey DeLisle and posted for a brief time on her Instagram account. The since-deleted photo shows an adult Bobby Hill posing in his Chef's uniform, and is underscored with several paragraphs about what Bobby has been up to since the original series' ending. Bobby is considerably older and even has a stubbly beard, but he is still unmistakable despite his aging.

The about the chef section below the photo has a wealth of interesting information about Bobby's new career, including that he is self-taught, and an expert in fusion dishes. In the revival, Bobby will be working as a robata chef, and apparently he has a pretty stable career in the culinary arts. It's unclear how this job will factor into the story, but it offers a wealth of storytelling possibilities.

Chef Bobby Hill has loved food his whole life. From weeknights around the dinner table eating his mom's 'Spa-Peggy and Meatballs,' to overindulging in lutefisk at church potlucks, to celebrations with family and friends at Luly's Cafeteria, food and the people it's enjoyed with are the ingredients for his best memories. In fact, his career as a robata chef was inspired by his most cherished memory of all-weekends spent grilling with his dad.

A self-taught chef and one of the youngest contestants on King of the Grill , Chef Hill believes 'good food can solve any problem.' He draws on the influences of his childhood by combining classic Texas dishes with flavors from around the world. With Robata Chane, Chef Hill hopes to honor the art of Japanese robata and the German heritage of the Texas Hill Country while pushing culinary boundaries through his innovative fusion dishes.

The King Of The Hill Revival Is Confirmed

The Hills Are Returning

The revival is confirmed, and King of the Hill was picked up by Hulu in January 2023. Before Hulu became involved, Judge and Daniels had been planning a King of the Hill reboot since 2017, negotiating with FOX, but the deal ultimately fell through. Its appearance on Hulu might take a bit of the strain off of King of the Hill to perform well in the ratings department, and it can instead put up solid streaming numbers with die-hard fans.

However, news regarding the revival has slowed somewhat since the announcement of the Hulu deal, and a production timeline remains elusive. Though Judge and others have revealed a myriad of story details, it isn't clear when the show will arrive, and a release window is elusive. 2025 would be a logical release year, but no one involved with the series has confirmed that year.

The Original Cast Is Returning

Along with the announcement made by Hulu in January 2023, the cast was revealed too, and almost every original voice actor is returning for the King of the Hill revival cast. There will be a few notable changes though, as the tragic passing of Johnny Hardwick (Dale Gribble) will either necessitate a recast or a writing off of the beloved character, though he did record some dialogue for the upcoming season. Similarly, the passing of Brittany Murphy (Luanne Platter) and Tom Petty (Lucky) will also need to be addressed, and it hasn't been revealed how those two characters will be handled in the reboot.

What Have The Hills Been Up To?

Neither of the creators has disclosed significant story details outside a 15-year time jump in King of the Hill. This concept opens numerous possibilities for the King of the Hill revival story, showing older versions of the Hill family and their friends. Moreover, the revival has the potential to definitively conclude the series, especially considering that it's not the only project Judge or Daniels is producing at the moment. The time jump might also be useful to explain the absence of several notable characters like Luanne, Lucky, and Dale.

Though it was originally revealed to be a 15-year time jump, Pamela Adlon's details about Bobby's role in the show seem to suggest its somewhat shorter. The only character with any details so far is Bobby who will be 21 years old in the show and working as a chef at a restaurant in Dallas. Similar flash-forward stories will probably be told, but specific details of the King of the Hill revival are being kept under wraps.
